It has been much too long since I shared information with our friends, supporters and most of all, fellow treasure hunters. So hold on to your hat, fasten your seat belt, take a deep breath, and allow your imagination to take you to a world where all children succeed and there are no exceptions.

It was unimaginable to many across the country that this little idea of changing the way America was labeling its children from at risk to at hope would ultimately usher in a remarkable and powerful initiative designed to empower every caring adult with a set of principles and practices when rooted in a school, youth serving organization or program’s culture could be the vaccine against the hopelessness, aimlessness and failure too many of our children were still experiencing.

And yet, in only six short years, the little idea that could has begun to transform entire institutions in not only believing, but dramatically demonstrating that all children, regardless of their backgrounds or threats in their lives; in spite of past or present negative conditions; still possess the capacity to succeed. However, for this vaccine to work so that all children truly have a chance to contribute to their communities, to their families, to their careers and education and to themselves through their hobbies and recreation, a new and bold strategy needed to be achieved. This strategy would be different from the “good intentions” of the past. So much of what we do for our children is based on our good intentions, not necessarily from a body of scientific knowledge of evidence-based practices. And for many youth, good intentions do work. Unfortunately, for far too many of our youth it is not enough and we need to be concerned about that as well. This is why we still have too many children drop out of school, join gangs, take drugs, commit suicide, and engage in inappropriate social behavior; too many children not achieving their potential.

So is your hat firmly attached to your head? Is your seat belt still fastened? Are you still holding your breath and will your imagination allow this extraordinary thought? Kids at Hope plans to change all that. And here is our commitment . . . we hope to reach every child in America. Not just some children, all children. Here is what is happening at Kids at Hope to achieve such an astonishing vision.

Kids at Hope Signs with New Publisher

We are quite excited to have signed an exclusive two year contract with Sagamore Publishing of Champaign, IL to republish a new edition of our book Kids at Hope: Every Child Can Succeed, NO EXCEPTIONS. This newly revised edition will be published in soft back making it more affordable to our public. Visit Sagamore at www.sagamore pub.com and order your copy today.
Another New Book? You Got to be Kidding!

Nope, we aren’t. And guess what? It is written for children. Entitled The Kids at Hope Friends Visit Miss Debby’s Class tells the story of how Hillary Hope, Oscar Optimism and Sammy Success got their names. It’s an entertaining book fully illustrated and designed to instill the important concepts of hope, optimism and success in all children. Copies should be ready by early 2007. More to come so stay real close. This one will truly be a classic. This will also be the first in a series of children books by Kids at Hope.
What you Say . . . and Still Another Book

Look forward to our next parable about how a community came to understand the importance of building a cultural framework rather than just a school building. Entitled The House , visit a group of citizens living about 80 years ago and learn how they went about creating a school system that houses their dreams and aspirations for all their children and their children’s children. Find out if the community leaders of today were able to sustain those early goals.
Mile High City Hosts Kids at Hope's Fifth Annual Board of Directors Planning Retreat

We needed to be that high in order to have a clear vision of our future. Along with two hard days of planning, the board was also treated to the magic of Keir Royale featured at our fellowship dinner. The Denver retreat also witnessed presentations by Gary Yazwa, whose $60 million campaign is building Hope Centers throughout the South Puget Sound area of Washington State; Greg O’Brien, whose 16 Acre Hope Square project in Phoenix will be a model to be emulated by communities across the country; Dr. Terry Rosch, who is working with three of Chicago’s most challenging neighborhoods in revitalizing their belief in their children through Hope Square; Ron Richards, who discussed with the board how all 14 schools in the Pendergast School District have embraced the Kids at Hope framework, and Gerald Richard, who informed the board how a metropolitan Police Department can benefit from Kids at Hope.
A Keynote Here, A Keynote There; A Class Here, A Class There; A Training Here, A Training There

It's not hard to hear the Kids at Hope story whether your are attending a conference sponsored by the University of Wisconsin, a dinner hosted by the Chief of Police of Houston, a class offered by Arizona State University, or one of our many professional and volunteer development workshops. Kids at Hope is all over the country training caring adults about the strategy that supports the success of all children, NO EXCEPTIONS!
Fore!

Don’t duck yet, but on March 26 you may have to as 144 golfers will converge on the very private, very beautiful Fire Rock Country Club for the first ever Kids at Hope Benefit Golf Tournament. Thanks to new board member, Bob Padgett, former President of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Ventura County, CA; Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Ventura, CA and in his spare time, President of Padgett Insurance who has organized a remarkable event. WOW! Want to play or become a sponsor? Call us at (602) 674-0026.
And Still Counting...

To date over 14,000 caring adults trained, reaching over 300,000 children in over 350 sites across the country.
Hope Squares

First there were four, then five; followed by six and now seven National Recreation Foundation supported Hope Square Sites across the country. Count them; Herndon, VA; Houston, TX; Pittsburg, KS; San Jose, CA; Albion, MI; Chicago, IL; Tacoma, WA. Eight more to go. Fifteen cities in five years. Can you imagine?
