West Point Hosts National Kids at Hope Board of Directors

This year's Kids at Hope National Board of Directors Planning Retreat was held on the campus of the US Military Academy at West Point thanks to KAH President and CEO, Pat Sculley (WP class of 1970). The board was greeted by Colonel David Ragsdale, Vice Dean of Academics and Colonel David Jones, Director of the Academy's Character Education and Ethics Institute. The Kids at Hope board, chaired by Ron Willingham, learned first hand how a culture establishes the expectations for all aspects of what an institution represents. The board was also treated to a private tour of the academy grounds by Captain Sean Sculley, a professor of American History at the Academy as well as dinner with members of the cadet corps.

Kids at  Hope Promotes HIGH FIVE Standards

To more effectively describe the uniqueness of those groups that implement the Kids at Hope belief system and strategies in support of the success of all children, Kids at Hope has developed its HIGH FIVE standards. To become a HIGH FIVE school or organization, groups need to demonstrate the following: 1) Articulate the belief that all children are capable of success, NO EXCEPTIONS-meaning that all who work with children believe that statement; 2) Practice the Kids at Hope pledge - research has demonstrated that children who learn the power of self talk do better achieving their goals than children who do not; 3) Ensure that every child receives a Kids at Hope Report Card once a year that focuses on their potential, not just their behavior; 4) Ensure every child receives their Passport to the Future once a year as a demonstration that all children are offered the gift of hope by helping them articulate their future in four destinations including Home & Family; Education & Career; Community & Service; and Hobbies & Recreation; and 5) Validate and document through Kids at Hope Aces Tracking System the importance of every child being connected to one or more caring adults in a sustainable and meaningful manner. Are you ready to become a HIGH FIVE group? If so please contact shillana@kidsathope.org
